4 slots, but only 3 drives show up in device menu

Featured Replies

I originally built an array with 3 drives - 1 parity and 2 data.  I bought three bigger drives.  First I upgraded the parity and this worked fine, but I notice other people have options in the device menu for many disks that just show unassigned.  I only have 3 slots and can't assign my old parity disk to be data now.  Do I need to pay for more?  Is there something obvious I'm missing?

Also,  I want to put in a promise 4 sata slot card.  Can I just pop it in or do I need to do something with the flash?

Thanks so much,

Brian

If you are running unraid basic it is free but only supports 3 drives.  You will need to pay for the plus or pro key and they support 6 and 16 drives respectively.  You can check out the prices at the following http://lime-technology.com/?page_id=36 page.

You can add the card connect your drives and restart the system.  You would then go to the web interface to add the drives.

Thanks.  I figured it was something like that, but couldn't seem to locate anywhere that said I was limited to 3.

Now I've purchased a license for 16 drives including a new flash drive (which I needed because my flash didn't have a proper ID #).

There are no instructions and again I couldn't find any info on upgrading to a new version in my circumstance.  Do I just plug in the new flash and it will work with my existing parity and data disks or do I need to copy some of the files from my old flash, or...what is the best procedure?

Thanks again for the newbie answers,

Brian

If you have defined user-shares you will need to re-do them with the new flash drive.

You can copy the config folder files from the old flash drive to the new.

The new flash will have an additional ".key" file. That is your registration file needed to enable the additional drives and features.  Don't remove the .key file, just copy the "network.cfg, disk.cfg, etc from the old flash drive to the new.  Also copy the "config/super.dat" file from the old flash to the new.

If you don't care to copy files, and since you might be re-organizing your data with additional drives, you can just assign the current drives exactly like they were on the old flash drive and not copy any files.  Most important is to assign the old parity drive to the parity slot on the new.  Take a screen-print now with the old flash drive and re-assign the drives in the same way on the new flash drive.

Good luck with your server.
