There have been occasions when firmware updates were needed to prevent data loss. But, IMHO, rarely are drive firmware updates needed. Quote Link to comment

Typically, firmware updates are available as a CD iso which can be booted. A USB CD drive may be required. Alternatively, a DOS boot flash drive can be prepared. Quote Link to comment
