Formula1 - Fan discussion

Featured Replies

Fellow unRAIDers,

Being a Formula1 fan in the USA can be a very lonely existence.  But here on the forums, we have worldwide members, as well as very techy types (who tend to be drawn to F1 more than others).

I just thought I would start a thread where we can discuss all things F1.  It would be nice to have fellow fans to discuss F1 with as they are few and far between here in the US.

So, any other unRAIDers out there that are complete F1 freaks like I am?

Per the Lounge rules "Off-topic, but try to keep it storage-related", this is very much storage related, as my trusty unRAID server holds all my F1 content.  ;D

I'm a F1 fan from the US as well!

I didn't watch the last 2 seasons (moved to a different state/new job) but this year I'm back! I'm trying to catch up on all of the changes, I'm curious how those smaller turbo'ed engines are going to compare to those v8 beasts. I still miss the re-fueling.

Awesome!  Glad to know there's a few of us in the US!

2012 was a pretty good season, but you didn't miss much last year except for Vettel smashing some records and running away with the title.

I'm also really fired up about all the rule changes and especially the new power units.  Not only a 1.6L turbo V6, but the ERS systems are much more involved than previous years.

Having heard a few audio clips from the Jerez testing, I have to say, the new power units don't wail like the old high revving v8's or v10's, but they do sound really good!  Much more of a race car sound, IMHO, deeper with a lot more 'grunt', a proper race car sound.  I will miss the high-pitched wail of 18,000 - 20,000 rpm though.

I'm looking for Sponsors. I have plenty of room for some Lime Technologies Stickers if Tom is interested.

LMAO.  I thought you only drove the short bus?

I have a long bus, short bus and a Audi S5.

I usually am in the Short Bus due some of the "special" kids on here who need to be taken to school. Hopefully with the new forum rules Tom instituted, I can drive the Long Bus more or maybe even the Audi.

2013 was tedious for the most part.  Double points for the Last race is stupid. ..  also here is hoping Massa and Williams do well in 2014.  Unlikely.  :)

I'm not a huge fan, but I am learning more about the sport.  I love open-wheeled racing. Been a huge fan of Indycar since I was a kid.

I do enjoy attending the Grand Prix in Austin every year.

I'm not a huge Massa fan, but have massive respect for him.  The way in which he handled losing the WDC at the last second in 2008 was pure class.

Double points is incredibly stupid, another Bernie "spice up the action" move.  Totally unnecessary.  Any double points fan should be required to ride grumpy's short bus.

Incredibly jealous.  I have yet to be able to afford to go to a race, but hopefully I'll make it to one soon.  Austin would be awesome, great track, but if I had my choice Spa would definitely be my first pick.

Generally, the more you learn about F1, the more you get sucked in.  I originally bacame a fan seeing F1 and Indycar races on TV as a kid.  Open-wheel racing always appealed more to me than other types for whatever reason, probably because it required precision driving.  The smallest mistake or touching wheels meant your race was over.  What sucked me in as I got older (and nerdier) was the incredibly technical nature of the sport.  The cars are just incredible machines.

Try to be more careful while driving in the snow!    :o

I'm a huge f1 fan and am thinking of subscribing to sky sports f1 in the UK . If you get my drift contact me to find out more.

LMAO.  That's why you should attempt drifting after a heated back and forth with lionelhutz!

Yes, I'm having serious withdrawls. It's time for some F1.

I'm happy to see Williams looking so strong, and the classic Martini livery is epic.  Mercedes definitely looking like the team to beat after testing. I'm personally happy to see RBR fighting with their new design, not sure I could take another season of RBR domination and the finger. I have no doubt they will develop the car though and be in the hunt later in the season. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in Melbourne a week from now.

Here is a good view of some changes and some team info for the new season.

It was a great first race! Just as much drama as I expected. Did anyone else watch the race yet? There should be a spoilers tag to hide text :)

I have seen it.  I also thought it was a great first race.  I'll keep any spoilers out in case there are some who haven't seen it yet, but wow, it's looking to be a great seaon.

I have to say (and agree with a lot of the commentators) that I LOVE the sound of the new power units, but they are not nearly loud enough.  As with all things F1 I guess we will get used to it, but it does sadden me that I never got to hear the scream of the V8's or V10's in person.

Agreed, I really miss the sound of the V8's. Though it was nice to be able to hear the drivers so clearly on the radio. Some of the newer drivers are going to make this a fantastic season.

Couldn't agree more.  The first time I heard the tires squealing I thought I was hearing things.  ;D

Anyone know how to automate the download of the races?  I was thinking SickBeard, but tvdb.com doesn't allow sporting events.

I'd be interesting in downloading other regular sporting events as well; Barclays Premier, etc.

Your best bet is setting up RSS, I don't think there is any other way to automate.

Transmission and Flexget solve it for me.  Flexget solves a lot of the issues I have pulling stuff that tvdb doesn't list.
