February 5, 201412 yr HI Guys, I am still recovering from some significant data loss... to put it into a nutshell, I got a red ball on one drive. I was naive enough to think that replacing the drive and having the system rebuild it would be the safest method. The reality is that another drive was the one failing (but still showed a green ball). So it could not properly rebuild.... I made many mistakes which were my fault... but I think that something that runs smartctl (or anything that detects drive failure) tests on each drive and reports would be extremely helpful. Something that can be scheduled and where one can easily view/interpret the results of the tests. Some of my drives are getting old, and I worry about future failures. Any thoughts? Thanks, H.
May 22, 201412 yr I'm also looking for a visual plugin to run smart tests. Or is this something I have to run manually every few months to ensure my disks are healthy?
