February 7, 201412 yr Just setting up one of my new 54L microserver using a couple of the HP 250GB drives supplied as a quick 'getting around the system' test. As the drives are under the 2TB limit do i need to align them at all using the -A switch? Did a quick (not so!) initial preclear and it didn't align at all, started at sector 63, is this right for these small drives? Suppose it's just a matter of getting my brain into gear because when i come to build proper i'll be using 4TB drives which do (?) need the switch or will these be handled automatically by Joe_L's script?
February 7, 201412 yr My understanding: For that sized drive the alignment does't matter and it makes no difference if it's used with other "4k aligned" disks. For larger drives like the 4TB you mentioned, alignment is done automatically within the script.
