February 13, 201412 yr Author Simply more storage on more than 24 disks within one server. At a later stage those might be virtualized and exported as a single volume though. Having separated arrays reduces risk and wouldn't slow parity checks massively, would be easy to implement, etc..
March 24, 201412 yr If you want this go for a ZFS of BTRFS setup. They already support this 'subvolume' business of which you speak.
