Virtualization and the SSD

Featured Replies

With Virtualization on unRaid becoming a near term reality, how important will it be to have a SSD for the VM images, data stores, etc.?

Is there an optimum size (besides bigger is better)?

I followed this and mounted a 32GB SSD just for VM storage. Unsure of how much difference it would make but at least I don't need a drive to be spun up just to run my VMs.

32GB is enough for 2 default size VMs.

Unless one of the VM's is Windows.  If you were to have a windows server with something plex server on it then you'd want at least a 128GB ssd. I had a 64GB ssd for VM's and was running into issues with space because of a large plex server library.
