insira
Hi, I have a very basic unraid setup. Unraid Version: 4.7 Parity -1TB (SEGATE - ST1000DM003) Disks DISK1 - 1TB (TOSHIBA - DT01ACA100) Today morning suddenly the DISK1 appeared as not installed. But i was able to access the content of the disk via user shares. Just to make sure, i powered down the server and checked the connectors to DISK1 and made sure i plugged them to the same port. (I'm 100% sure i didn't change any of the connections). Then i booted the system and now it's showing DISK1 as a new disk and asking to rebuild the data. I'm not sure if there is a problem with the drive. I have attached the syslog. Below is a smart report of DISK1. root@MainTower:/# smartctl -a -d ata /dev/sda smartctl 5.39.1 2010-01-28 r3054 [i486-slackware-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 Serial Number: Firmware Version: MS2OA750 User Capacity: 1,000,204,886,016 bytes Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 8 ATA Standard is: ATA-8-ACS revision 4 Local Time is: Thu Feb 13 01:23:01 2014 IST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. Please let me know. what steps i can take to get the array back online. Thanks in Advance. Insira syslog.txt Link to comment
insira
Sorry, forgot to mention, that i had an additional drive setup as a SWAP+APP Drive. This drive has died, it wasn't a part of the Unraid array. It only has a swap parition and a VM to download torrents. Not sure if it has caused some write errors on DISK1. (Think the drive had dies while the unraid was UP). :'( Anyways let me know how i am to proceed??? Thanks in advance Insira Link to comment
insira
Some new development in the situation, I have been fiddling around with the SNAP, in hopes of trying to mount DISK1 as a separate share and see if the data is available. So I un-assign DISK1 from my array, and mount the disk as a share using SNAP. got it to work. When I checked the data seems to intact. I'm in the process of coping the data into a secondary storage disk that i have; and upto now there seems to be no issues with the files. Also un-assigning DISK1, restored all my user shares. Which I am clueless as to how it restored the shares with the disk out of the array:o I'm think of going through with this as follow Copy the content of DISK1 to secondary storage disk start the rebuild process of the newdisk do a checksum verification of the restored data and secondary storage data I have a concern regarding step 2, should I preclear the disk and attempt the rebuild process or just press start in the unraid web UI and let it do the full rebuild process?? Thank you in Adance Insira Link to comment
dgaschk
In this case, pre-clear will not save any time but it will thoroughly test the disk. Link to comment
