February 14, 201412 yr Hi all ... new to UNRAID, just 'dabbling' with a HP54L before jumping in with both feet Running V5 general release ... i've modded bios to 'un-ide' sata port using the patch from 'Thebay' .... all went well and sata ports 1-6 are showing as available. At present i've just got two 250GB drives available and at each boot i'm getting an error 'Tower kernel: ata*.00: failed to enable AA (error_mask=0x*) (Errors)' where '*' is repeated for each of the two drives in the syslog. All runs fine but i'm wary of moving on until i appreciate what this error (obviously related to recent mod of bios because it didn't appear beforehand) is? I'm no linux person so anyone who can give me a pointer at where to start?
February 14, 201412 yr Hmmm... I'm not familiar with that HP box. That error is often from a bad driver. But when you say, i've modded bios to 'un-ide' sata port using the patch from 'Thebay' you do mean you really did create a patched BIOS and load it on the HP? ...not just changed a BIOS setting at startup? You might attach your unRAID syslog...one of the hardware wizards might know. If there's a forum at 'TheBay', try asking there, too. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9880.0
February 14, 201412 yr Author No ... I picked up on a well advertised patch to the BIOS for HP 54L servers which enables SATA ports 5-6 for AHCI use and allows more drives to be added to what is, out of the box, a four disk server. The patch was procided by a forum'er using the name 'TheBay', i'm sure many on this forum will have done this mod. It all went aok on my box other than leaving the errors mentioned at boot time which relate to each disk currently in the server. I've attached a syslog and highlighted the errors. It's possible that i've missed some setting or other in the bios itself? syslog.txt
February 14, 201412 yr I'll see if my N54L has those in the syslog tonight. If so I've had it for months now with no ill effect. This post (for Intel not AMD but probably still applies) shows a possible solution. http://www.devheads.net/linux/fedora/laptop-user/intel-mobile-express-chipset-sata-ahci-controller.htm#comment-460105 Here is someone else with same error on HP server and you can read the responses to it. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19962.msg178118#msg178118 Edit I don't believe I've had the errors. It at least isn't in my currently log.
February 16, 201412 yr Author Thanks for those replies. I'll give them a look. Errors dont seem to be causing any problems. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
