Bad block on cache.

Hello, my cache drive has a bad block. I tried to use this guide http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/badblockhowto.html to find the files that are affected but I am stuck at step 4. when I use: 

tar -cO /mydir | cat >/dev/null

it says that /mydir does not exist. It doesn’t give any indication on if I am supposed to replace any of it with my info like /dev/sdb1. I have bought a new drive to use as the cache but I do not want to bring over any corrupt data. Any suggestions?
