HP ProLiant ML370 G5: will UnRAID work with SATA disks?

Featured Replies

Hello everybody,

It's my first post here, and after reading a lot and searching on the forum I've not found any information about this model and UnRAID, even in Google.

I have the opportunity to buy one of these very cheap, with redundant PSU, 16GB ECC RAM... server grade processor (Xeon with 4 cores). So it looks promising, but I will only interested on it if I can add SATA disks (I already have some).

I'm very interested on building a server using UnRAID, I love its features and fault tolerance, and I want to build a cheap system, buying a used computer. I've found other, but this one looks great to it, isn't it?

Thank you in advance!!

Nobody knows? Any advice?  :'(

Where do you plan on putting that server?  It sounds like a jet engine. Also, most likely, the drivers needed for the array controller are not in unRAID.

hi,

you would need another controller for getting it to work with  unraid as the SA controllers are not supported

also i think this server is running Small form factor SAS drives

so normal sata drives (large form factor) will not fit in those

i could be wrong if this one has a LFF back plane then it would work but you would still need another controller ...

Hi, sorry, I was not notified about the replies! Thanks for your answers! I'll consider it and really appreciate your time to answer!

You will need a sata card be it a supermicro or lsi flashed ect as the controller the hp give you wont support passthrough. I picked up a rack unit like your but once i powered it on was like christ is there a jet near by? If you can get by with the noise then they are a great route to go having ecc and a xeon, though you dont get passthrough vt-d with 771's :(
