Odd issues

Featured Replies

I am hoping for some help with a few odd issues. I am currently running a AMD FX 8350 on a ASUS Crosshair V Formula-z with a Radeon 6450 passed through for my HTPC. I can get the video to pass through without a problem, but for some unknown reason, I can not get the usb 3.0 ports to pass through. When I try to install the driver windows says that the controller is unavailable and uninstalls itself. My other issues is setting the password for unraid's root account. I do a passwd and type in the password which works great until I reboot the system then I loose it and have to go downstairs hook up a keyboard and monitor and redo it. I do need the exercise but its getting old quick. Lastly I am getting really sad copy rates from my vm which is on the cache drive to unraid share. The max speed I can get is 10mbs, so backing up images takes a lot longer then it should. I do have the xen drivers installed in windows.  I have attached the .cfg files. One last question does anyone know how to change the default video card unraid grabs, on my board its always the first pci-e slot which is a x16 and a total waste to be used to monitor unraid. Thanks!

I don't have a lot of answers (juste one actually) but it might help with your exercise issue :) If I remember correctly, for the root password to stick over reboots, you have to change it from the GUI, not from the console.

I am not 100% sure but I don't think unraid or  xen  or both support USB 3.0

Thanks for the replies, I will try the gui password change and vl1969 - I know for a fact xenserver does as I ran it like that since you and I talked about pass through a few months back. I will try the 2.0 ports tonight though as I don't really need the 3.0 speed but it would be nice to have.

so what changed since then for you to do pass through again?

I switched from xenserver to unraid 6. I wanted to switch because I didn't know how to recompile the newest unraid to run as a vm. I figured switching would be easier and more fun especially with all the packages people are making for it.

Well you do realize that xenserver is not 100% the same as xen? In fact xs is a version or two behind.  There might be some features that got broken in transition. Nevertheless I did some reading and it should work, need to do more investigating

You don't need to recompile the newest unraid to run as a VM.
