February 21, 201412 yr I read somewhere that with Xen I can install a Linux virtual machine even if Atom D525 has not vt-d. Is this information correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

February 21, 201412 yr Here is your CPU http://ark.intel.com/products/49490 When you say VT-d you mean VT-x.
February 22, 201412 yr Author I don't really know the difference between VT-D and VT-X but I'm glad it would work anyway on my little atom thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
February 22, 201412 yr With neither hardware support (Vt-x) nor passthrough (Vt-d), and a relatively low performance envelope (PassMark 694) it's unlikely you'll be satisfied with the performance of virtual machines running on a D525. I really like my D525-based UnRAID server -- it's nearly perfect for a basic NAS with UnRAID (VERY low power and excellent performance) -- but I wouldn't dream of using it as the basis for a hypervisor.
February 22, 201412 yr Author I don't want to virtualize 3-4 machines, I only want to leave unraid as clean as possible and run a virtualized environment where I run some apps (transmission/sickbeard/crashplan). Do you think it would work?
February 22, 201412 yr all three of those apps can peg a high end CPU if pushed your bets bet is to just try it and see but dont hold out hope your CPU is at the extreme bottom end of the scale for this
February 22, 201412 yr Do you think it would work? Yes and No. Technically it would work; but the performance would almost certainly be unacceptable. If you want to keep your UnRAID server "clean" ... leave it as is with the nice, very low-power D525; and build yourself another small system for virtualization (or, if you only want one additional system, just install it bare bones). A small mini-ITX system using a much higher-end CPU would be a good choice for that.
February 23, 201412 yr I want the guy to try it out for us so we can get a definitive yes or no on support. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
February 23, 201412 yr Since Limetech ships a server with the D525, it would seem they can easily provide this answer.
