February 24, 201412 yr I will re-setup a new unraid, using the latest version, 5.05. I have 4 drives, 2 TB each. Seagate Green, Seagate LP, 2 Western Digital Reds. Which is best as parity? Green or LP? Do these drives need to be 4K aligned? Do they need -A or -a during preclear? Thanks
February 24, 201412 yr All new or newly added drives should be 4k-aligned. Under Settings->Disk Settings Set the Default partition format: to 4K-aligned. Once this setting is made use neither -a or -A, i.e. use no flag, and the disk will be 4K-aligned.

February 25, 201412 yr Who added the jumper? This applies to new or newly added drives. No drive comes with a jumper.
February 25, 201412 yr Author hello dgaschk, What do you mean by "Once this setting is made use neither -a or -A, i.e. use no flag, and the disk will be 4K-aligned." I shouldn't use -a or -A? Just the regular preclear command? Thanks
February 25, 201412 yr All new or newly added drives should be 4k-aligned. Under Settings->Disk Settings Set the Default partition format: to 4K-aligned. Once this setting is made use neither -a or -A, i.e. use no flag, and the disk will be 4K-aligned. . If you set the default settings as described above you do NOT specify any -a or -A flag and all discs then automatically align on 4k block boundary.
February 26, 201412 yr Preclear will use the Default partition format by default. -a or -A is NOT required.
