February 25, 201412 yr Hi Guys, just switched to unRAID 5.0.5 plus and using a HP Microserver N40L with 2x 4TB WD Reds (1 Parity), 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda and 5th Drive is stock 250gb used for cache in ODD bay Currently getting around 55mb/s transfer rate peaked at 57mb/s would a faster cache drive speed things up? I could install a 60gb SSD I have spare or can the one of the data drives be used as cache too? Checked the BIOS (ver. 041 07/29/11) and can already adjust the internal sata speed so assuming bios mod isn't required? System: - CPU: AMD Turion(tm) II Neo N40L Dual-Core - 1.5 GHz Cache: 256 kB, 2048 kB Memory: 8192 MB (max. 8 GB) Network: eth0: 1000Mb/s - Full Duplex

As you are quoting 55mb/s speeds I suspect those are reads.. Your reads will not improve with the cache drive...
February 25, 201412 yr Author Have you configured any of your shares to use cache? Yes so added disk 1 and 2 to share with cache enabled, no split Hi Guys, just switched to unRAID 5.0.5 plus and using a HP Microserver N40L with 2x 4TB WD Reds (1 Parity), 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda and 5th Drive is stock 250gb used for cache in ODD bay Currently getting around 55mb/s transfer rate peaked at 57mb/s would a faster cache drive speed things up? February 28, 201412 yr Just re-read your mail... Did not read it correct at first.. You should be able to get a bit better speeds then that.. For me I also get around your numbers and have decided not to try and improve, there are more components possible of influence then only the drive..
March 7, 201412 yr Author Speeds have gone lower now to around 45mb/s enabled jumbo frames on my router made no difference. All my drives are 7200rpm did notice memory usage being 97% Has anyone else got faster speeds with HP Microserver N40L?
