Added two fresh drives...server trying to format Cache too.

Featured Replies

Hi. I just cleared the two new drives I was adding. Unraid told me that it was going to format all the unformatted drives....at the last second, I saw that it was going to format my cache drive as well. How do I stop this? I couldn't interrupt the process so I quickly powered down the server. I don't want to lose the stuff on my cache drive.

Please, how do I exclude this from format.

If uNRAID wants to format the cache drive then for some reason unRAID must think it is not currently formatted.  In the short term maybe the solution is to simply unplug the cache drive until you other disks are formatted.

However if you had initiated the format then I am not sure what state the array disks that need formatting have been left in.

Not clear exactly how you got to this point. Guess it doesn't matter.

Is there something on cache that you consider irreplaceable (in which case it should be on the array) or do you just have some addons there and you don't want to go to the trouble of setting them up again.

Likely you will have some trouble anyway if you "pulled the plug" while it was formatting. Maybe even have to preclear again or let unRAID take the array offline while it clears the new drives.

Maybe cache can be repaired if it has been formatted. Or maybe it is OK but unRAID doesn't know it is the cache for some reason and you can mount it outside the array and copy everything off of it.

Your existing data drives and parity are probably OK but all of the others are in an unknown state so you will just have to power it back up and find out. Post a syslog and screenshot.
