Multiple GPU Passthrough?

Featured Replies

Am I missing something or is multiple GPU passthrough not possible on Xen?

http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Xen_VGA_Passthrough

According to the above:

"Xen 4.0.0 supports VGA passthrough of the primary graphics adapter (the one that gets initialized and is used when you power-on the computer) only. VGA passthrough of secondary graphics adapters currently requires additional extra patches to Xen."

Are there patches for Xen secondary graphics card passthrough?

Patches are outdated and not supported.

Patches are only useful for NVIDIA Cards, and will only fully work for WindowsXP

I had hopes of having multiple AMD GPU's on one host....

PCI passthrough is different to VGA passthrough I think.

Either way - I have failed to get a 7950 and a R270X to be passed through to a guest VM.

lspci/device manager in the guest shows both GPUs there, but when you install the drivers it either falls over or plain doesn't work.

I'm probably missing something though!

I think we could do worse than join IRC at a set time each week for a Q&A!

Likely a good idea IB. This is going to be a hot topic for the foreseeable future.

For what it's worth, Xen itself should support this. I am running XenServer 6.2 and have 2 VMs with dedicated GPUs (you need to use AMD, not Nvidia I have found out the hard way), but I don't know how you would translate this to Xen 4.3.1 on UnRAID (though I assume the underlying code is the same).

Great question, would love an answer to this myself!

You'll more likely get an answer on the Xen mailing list on this issue than here...
