Testing Current boards for IOMMU and IRVS Tables?

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Excited about the new unraid xen stuff. I am wondering if there is something I can run from command line, or an easy way to see if my current board can passthrough pci and usb without completely screwing up unraid. The information out there is a little light. Thanks for any help.

for your CPU you can run "egrep ‘(vmx|svm)’ /proc/cpuinfo"

but Mb you just need to go into bios and see if there is anything there says virtualization in it.

Even then, the only way to know for sure is to try it out.

true enough

I didn't try that board but I had trouble getting iommu working on FM2. I sold the cpu and board and went with an am3 socket setup.

I appreciate the replies, I was in the hospital while my wife was delivering my first beautiful little Girl!... everyone is home, healthy and doing well.

I figured the easiest way was to try it out, is there a way to shut down the server, disconnect all the hard drives, boot up in xen from a usb or using a test harddrive and see if the IRVS tables are available without putting in a pci graphics card and attempting pass through? I don't want to fubar my server, and I am sure I could figure out how to test it, but with new technology I often take a simple test and end up doing a 15 step test when that is not required. I have no problem taking the server offline for a test run, but would like to know the easiest way to go about it. As always love the community help, and any advice is appreciated.

Worse case I am going to go Xen on an A8 with the AM3 socket, but I already have an A6 and I don't really require another two cores currently if I can get it to work.

Thanks,

Rick
