March 3, 201412 yr Hey all, I was wondering if it is possible to mix SAS and SATA drives on one aoc-saslp-mv8? Normally I would never do this, but I've gotten a "fell off the back of the truck" deal on some SAS 4TB drives...so I thought I'd see if I could use them in the array .
March 7, 201412 yr Sell em and replace with multiple times the drives you actually need. No jk sell em you will see zero benefit
March 7, 201412 yr I've done it before with success. However my usage was different. 10,000 RPM SAS drives in Software RAID1 7200 RPM SATA drives for data storage, Software RAID1. Some of the issues will be. smartctl will operate differently, if at all with unRAID. hdparm will probably not spin down the drives. If you just want storage, then you can probably use them. I elected to use SATA drives so there was extra control via hdparm and the exposed data via smartctl. For unRAID and the benefits of unRAID, I would probably sell or trade them for SATA drives.
