March 8, 201412 yr So I tried to copy a folder over last night to my unRAID server from Win7 it said around 2.25TB and should take 15 hours, checked this morning and it hardly got started when I got the following error An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error It happened on a mp3 file first so tried again after a few mins same message so just skipped it and then a couple of minutes later happened on a jpg file. I googled the error and MS suggest rebooting into safe mode and someone else suggests running chkdsk chkdsk x: /F /R /X /B Any ideas, would it better to transfer files using FTP?
March 8, 201412 yr The problem is not with unRAID nor with your network. The error is pointing you at a problem on your PC. There's some sort of file/directory corruption on your harddrive. You found a specific problem file when you tried to copy, but there are likely to be more files with directory errors. 'Chkdsk' will attempt to repair the directories on your PC. I'd close everything on your PC and run chkdsk ASAP. After doing that, the problem should go away. The choice of transfering via FTP versus SMB is up to you after the drive is fixed. There are some threads that talk to speed advantages of using FTP, but again, fix your hard drive FIRST. Don't even browse the web...('cuz your web browser is constantly writing cache files to your hard drive. Those cache files have directory entries to keep track of their locations. Even as you read this, a cache file directory entry may be writing over a directory entry for data that you wanted to keep. ) Do a Shutdown now...restart in safe mode...run chkdsk.
March 9, 201412 yr Author Finally completed! After being stuck on 12% ages issues seems to be resolved. Copying files over now so hopefully it should work without any major issues getting ~ 40MB/s
March 10, 201412 yr Author Excellent news! What finally fixed the problem? I cant be 100% sure but to be safe I did take the drive out and swapped the sata and power cable so it could have been that or the chkdsk that resovled the problem either way not seen the error again and tranfsered over 1TB. My next problem is this morning I got disk full message! After doing some reading think its down to the user share not quite sure. Will check after work. Going to start using teracopy to transfer files as I still have around 3TB to transfer.
