Fuggin
Silly question. Why does the parity check speed always drop whenever I start the ui to check on the status? Quote Link to comment

dirtysanchez
Starting (or refreshing) the UI queries the drives for SMART status (among other things) which momentarily interrupts the parity check causing the speed to drop. Quote Link to comment
DaleWilliams
Right...when the UI is open, unRAID's processor has to keep updating its understanding of the array status and painting the screen with the result--such as the SMART status. The processor also has to keep watching out for the user to push a button on the screen that might cause the array to go do something. 'Reducing the overhead' allows the main process to run faster. PC's work the same way...its just not as noticeable. Quote Link to comment
