March 26, 201412 yr I have bought a bunch of 4TB Seagate DM's and they seem to have this APM that could shorten the lifespan of the drives. I saw that this issue was discussed in some posts but I did not see any permanent solution, is there any?

Without removing the disk from the server and connecting to to a machine that you can run the utility to change it permanantely you could add the hdparm command to your go file. You just need to reference the disk by ID because the drive letters can change across reboots. So just add a line like the following for each one of your disks you want to disable it on. hdparm -B 255 /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST3000DM001-XXXXXX_YYYYYYYY
March 27, 201412 yr Thanks! So there is a way to disable it permanently? With SeaTools? There is a way to disable it permanently but I don't know how exactly, I did a quick Google search but the results I glanced at referenced Windows so I didn't look at them because I don't have any Windows computers.
March 27, 201412 yr Author Does WD also have APM? What is the best low rpm 4TB drive for unraid these days?
