Smart report vs MyMain Smart status

Recommended Posts

Logged into my server the other day to just do my checks I do every so often to make sure things are healthy.  Typically that just means using MyMain in unmenu to make sure nothing is failing.

Long story short, my main reported:

current_pending_sector=1106

so I ran the short test on the disk.  The report appears healthy, but maybe that is just because I am not reading it right.  any thoughts?

The short test is just that, a quick and short test to check out the system.  I suspect it runs all the internal tests of hardware and firmware, tests the most important sectors at the beginning, and tests random sectors for every head.  It only takes a few minutes, whereas the long test takes hours, testing every sector on the surface.  You may want to start a long test, but I suspect you won't like the result!  One bad thing about the long test, it seems to stop at the first bad sector, doesn't give you a complete picture.  You'll know it's done when a SMART report says it's done, near the bottom in the test results section of the SMART report.
