January 23, 200917 yr Is there a safe / standard method of moving the physical location of a drive? I have a 17 disc array and would like to move the drives in location 5 and 6 to 14 and 15. It seems like from some of the documentation this can be done but i wanted to know if there was a sure fire safe way to do it. On a side note - what happens if you prematurely power off the whole array while it is "zeroing" or formatting new drives? Will it just start the process over again? I am asking because I am only 10% into what will be another 5-6 hours and I need to move the array. Thanks!
January 23, 200917 yr You just do it. As for the zeroing, AFAIK it won't do it again. It will probably work ok afterwards, but I would let it finish if I were you. Is that so bad?

As was said above, it is possible that you won't need it, but if it 'complains' in any way about parity, then just do this procedure. For the second question, JoeL (and Tom of course) is the expert. I would think it marks it as cleared only after completing the Clear (or pre_clear), otherwise that would be very dangerous. unRAID might think a disk has been completely filled with zeroes, when it hasn't, and would not know that your parity was invalid. Joe will know.
