Confirm my Xen plans

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Could you confirm that the following seems sensible?

Host: Xbunutu with Xen 4.3/4.4

Runs all my mining things, as I haven't got PCI passthrough of GPUs to work. (Plus I have nVidia cards...)

Runs off a Silicon Image PCI-E 1x card, not the fastest but will have to do.

PCI Passthrough of the motherboard SATA ports and Marvell PCI-E 2x SATA III card (cache drive on either 6 gbps controller) and one of the USB controllers (which ever controls the internal ports - it seems it is broken up on lspci) - Gives a maximum of 10 disks, with a dedicated Intel NIC. Going to use the pass through USB controller to boot off of.

  • 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller (rev 05)
  • 02:00.0 SATA controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE9230 PCIe SATA 6Gb/s Controller (rev 10)
  • 06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82574L Gigabit Network Connection

Guest 2: Xubuntu, 2 cores, 1GB

Shares the remaining NIC, but has a bridged connection so I can setup a VLAN for it (potentially).

Essentially this is going to run a few internet facing things, so I'm going to try and segregate it from the rest of the network.

Can I run it off the USB stick, or do I need to make/find an image of UnRAID 6b4 that I can put on the boot disk?

Thoughts?

Cheers!
