4TB WD Red WD40EFRX - $169.99 Newegg

Featured Replies

This drive seems to have pretty horrible ratings on Newegg.  It makes me hesitate on pulling the trigger on it.

Agree -- the WD Reds have an unfortunately high DOA rate, but are exceptionally reliable if you don't have infant mortality issues.    I've installed ~ 30 or them for myself and others, and had 4 drives I RMA'd immediately because they failed my initial testing [i always do a WD Data Lifeguard quick test, then the extended test, then a full write zeroes, and then repeat the quick & extended tests => if there is ANY issue I RMA the drive].    But the replacements for those; and all of the other drives; are still going strong after 1-2 years of 24/7 service.

Is this deal already over?  I clicked on link and it is $184......

Alot of the bad reviews are probably due to the way Newegg was shipping drives between Black Friday and some time in March.  During that time all of my faulty drives were most likely due to bad packaging and not the drives themselves.  Since my last shipment of 3TB Red drives two weeks ago newegg appears to have fixed their packaging problem - mostly.  The 4TB reds I just got were not packaged in a correctly sized outer box (it would have fit 8 drives - I ordered 3) but it did have sufficient packing materials in that box to keep the drives from moving so that makes up for the oversized exterior box.  The 3 3TB Reds I got two weeks ago were in a box that would only fit 3 drives so was perfectly sized.

you need to apply at coupon code at checkout.

As noted, you have to apply the Promo code.  I'm not sure, but I think you have to be subscribed to Newegg's newsletter/specials for promo codes to work ... but that's just a matter of creating an account (very simple, quick, and free).

Wow, do I feel stupid about now..... LOL.  Thanks!!

And now I see that they are out of stock  >:(
