RPC-4224 modifications? Internal drive mounting?

Featured Replies

Has anyone done any mods to their Norco 4224 case?

The one I picked up a few months ago seems to have come with the OS drive bracket attached to the stock fanwall (I thought that was an optional accessory, but perhaps its coming standard now).  But the 120mm optional fanwall doesn't come with the necessary screw holes to mount it.  I contacted Norco and they said I would need to drill the holes myself (seems like a pretty big oversight).

Has anyone tried this before?  Or any new methods for internally mounting drives?  I'd like to mount my ESXi datastore drives (one hard drive, one SSD) internally to free up all 24 bays for unRAID.

The new Norco case I just got in also has that OS drive bracket in it.

I use something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080V73RE/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 mounted in the unused PCI slots in the back of the computer.  A couple of the ESXi builds I have done have used two of those with SSDs hooked up to an M1015 in RAID 1.

I have used these pci bracket 2.5" drive mounts for boot drives:

The same company also make a 2-drive bracket.

I have a couple of the two drive ones in my builds,  you can also get hotswap type ones but I couldn't find them at a reasonable price.
