April 20, 201412 yr Hi , I burn my 2 hdds control cards i gave them reverse voltage but i m pretty sure that my discs ball are exactly working. Because when i tested them with another control card hdds are working. But they act as new hdds.I know that unraid server recognise the hdds with their models and serial numbers.I must save my datas they are very important for me.In these case if i buy same model new hdds and change my old hdds control cards with the new ones can i save my datas .And how can i associate two of them (old disc ball with datas& same model different serial number control card)
April 21, 201412 yr If you can actually get the HDD working, you do not need unRAID to recognize it. The HUGE benefit of unRAID is that the drives are usable without unRAID. They are completely usable as individual drives, just attach to linux box and mount (reiserfs required). You should start by making an image copy of the the drive to a new drive (ala dd or ddrescue) and then mount, if mount fails reiserfsck can be used.

April 21, 201412 yr Thanks for yr replay. But i wonder if i buy same model hdd and change my old hdds control cards with the new ones how can i associate two of them There is a thread or two where this was talked about. I've also have done what I think you are talking about. The pcb of the hard drive is burned. there are some websites where you can just buy the pcb to replace with your faulty one. Some of these websites will also do the replacement for you. Otherwise you need to make sure the pcb you buy is the same model and firmware as that of the one you want to replace.
April 22, 201412 yr Author Thank you for yr reply. But i know that the unraid server recognise the hdds with their models and serial numbers, at this point if i done the operation that you said how can the hdd recognise the new pcb.Because its serial number will be different,
April 22, 201412 yr Unraid doesn't care what the serial number of the disk is to read the data. You can set a new config and assign all drives as data drives, and unraid will mount and share the ones with valid reiserfs file systems. If you have a single bad data drive and want to recover its contents using the parity drive, that is a little more complicated, but still doable. Can you please describe your system? Motherboard, HBA's, and list of all the drives with sizes and current condition would help.
