Using a Mac to run unRAID?

I know this isn't what this thread is about, but has anyone tried to run unRAID on Mac hardware? You would need a Thunderbolt to PCIe bridge and an external PSU for the drives, and it would probably be preferable to run unRAID as guest in this scenario. If you have an unused Mac lying around it wouldn't even be outrageously expensive.

 

Honestly it would probably be cheaper to sell the mac and buy PC hardware and set it up with a more standard config.
