All of a sudden lost permissions...?

Featured Replies

I'm currently running V4.7 and I haven't touched any of the user or share settings, and I'm periodically losing read.write permission on both my windows 7 pc and my android tablet connecting over the wireless.  Sometime I can access my shares and see the folder directories, but when attempting to open a folder windows denies me access saying I don't have the proper permission.  This is after I have logged in with my main account that has full read/write access of everything, same on my android device.  This all started when I attempted to delete a large amount of files (8gb) to make more room and about half way through started getting permission errors.

What could be causing this?

Thanks

Here is my syslog, and I'm running Version 4.7

I have added, removed, and even created new users for various shares and I keep getting the "Network access is denied. BE sure you have the correct network permissions to perform this operation" on my Win7 X64 machine, and when attempting to do the same on my android device it gives a similar permission error.  Other than that I can still write to my shares, but can't remove.

Delete any saved credentials in the Windows control panel.

I checked and there are no credentials to be found on my win7 machine, but my android device also is not being allowed to remove files using the same existing and newly created user accounts?

I've finally run out of space and I can't delete anything off the server.  >:(

so upon further investigating, all of the files I've attempted to delete are on the same drive , while if I delete other files stored on the other drives in my server they can be deleted. Anything on DISK6 won't delete...

That suggests to me there might be file system corruption of some sort so that disk is being mounted in read-only mode.

To check for this you should put the array into maintenance mode and then from a console/telnet session run the command

reiserfsck --check /dev/md6

This command will run for some time, so if using telnet do not close the telnet session (or alternatively run the check under the 'screen' app).  This command will not change the disk contents in any way as it is purely a file system consistency check.

If reiserfsck reports no issues then my guess is wrong and you will have to see if there are any other checks worth doing.

If reiserfsck does report any issues it will suggest a way forward to correct issues found, but it is a good idea to check back here before carrying out the suggested course of action to see if anyone has any views on this, and suggestions for minimising the chance of data loss.

So far that seems to have fixed it.  Thank you very much for your time!  I did the reiserfsck check on my DISK6 and it found 6 corruptions.  I then did the reiserfsck --fix-fixable program and it did its things.  rebooted the server and restarted the array and I am able so far to delete things.
