Plex not remembering meta data after reboot.

Recommended Posts

Apologies in advance for my rambling post.

I'm sure the answer must be here, but I've spent ages trawling here and in the Plex forums and cannot find an answer that I understand.

System comprises :

Unraid v5.0.5 Pro running on all new hardware.

Everything boots and runs reliably (I've loaded 4TB of files into it without a hitch).

5 x data disks (2TB & 4TB)

1 x parity 4TB

1 x SSD 32GB cache

I have installed Control Panel v3.2.0 and Plex Media Server v 0.9.9.7

PMS starts up ok. It scans my media and gathers meta data ok. It serves up content to my Plex Player all ok.

Problems are :

If the Unraid server is rebooted then PMS forget's most of it's settings and all it's meta data.

I assume there is something wrong with these settings below or permissions related to these directories.

Library directory : /mnt/cache/plex

Temp directory : /mnt/cache/plex/temp

PMS is creating the directories on cache and filling them with more directories and data.

I've noticed this in the log file

May 7 20:04:12 Tower afpd[15744]: sys_getextattr_size: error: Permission denied

May 7 20:05:05 Tower last message repeated 12 times

At the same time, PMS is collecting metadata (it's a fresh start).

Using the PMS plug in, I've stopped PMS (leaving Unraid running),

May 7 20:07:47 Tower pms: Stopping Plex...

May 7 20:07:49 Tower su[17348]: Successful su for unraid-plex by root

May 7 20:07:49 Tower su[17348]: + ??? root:unraid-plex

then restarted PMS, again using the PMS plug in

May 7 20:07:49 Tower su[17348]: + ??? root:unraid-plex

May 7 20:08:08 Tower afpd[15744]: sys_getextattr_size: error: Permission denied

May 7 20:08:09 Tower last message repeated 4 times

May 7 20:08:21 Tower pms: Starting Plex...

May 7 20:08:21 Tower su[17365]: Successful su for unraid-plex by root

May 7 20:08:21 Tower su[17365]: + ??? root:unraid-plex

May 7 20:08:23 Tower pms: Plex Media Server IS running

May 7 20:08:23 Tower su[17404]: Successful su for unraid-plex by root

May 7 20:08:23 Tower su[17404]: + ??? root:unraid-plex

May 7 20:08:38 Tower afpd[15744]: sys_getextattr_size: error: Permission denied

Click back to PMS web page (http://192.168.1.17:32400)

and can see all the metadata is intact.

Will reboot Unraid server now

Rebooted ok

Interesting, this time it didn't forget the metadata. Frustrating, but still would like to understand the 'permission denied' comments in the log.

But that still leaves the other problem, PMS won't save changes to some settings.

eg Settings/Web/General, ? Play Theme Music [save Changes] "Your changes have been saved"

Settings/Server/Library ? Update my library periodically [save changes] "your changes could not be saved"

Is your plex user share set to Use cache: Only? If not it will get moved to the array overnight when mover runs.

If you didn't create a plex user share, you have one anyway because any top level folder on cache or any array disk is automatically a user share. If you don't configure a user share then it has default configuration. The default will mean the share is not cache-only and will be moved to array disks when mover runs.
