[Solved] Replacing Parity drive

Featured Replies

I am in the process of upgrading my parity from a 3 TB to a 4 TB drive. I followed the 7 steps listed here http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31681.msg287891#msg287891 to do so. I want to re-use the old 3TB drive once the parity sync is finished.

My concern is that once I shutdown unraid, re-install the 3TB drive, and boot up, unraid will not know which parity drive to use as both will have valid data since I have not written anything to the drives. Is there something else I need to do, or will unraid choose to use the parity drive based on the serial number that was last active?

Running 5.0.5 right now.

Yes, unRAID uses the drive that was last assigned so it won't be a problem re-installing the old drive.

You may also want to run a pre-clear on the old drive -- otherwise UnRAID won't be useable for the time it takes to clear that drive (several hours).

Thank you both for the replies! Good idea to run a pre-clear on it outside of the array so I can go ahead and start the array when the parity sync is done.

Update here: Unraid, as stated, used the last assigned drive. Currently in the process of pre-clearing the old parity drive before I add it to the array.
