May 16, 201412 yr Hi all, So my flash boot drive crapped out on me over this past weekend. I'm pretty sure all my drives are fine and data is intact. So I'm taking this opportunity to upgrade to the latest version of Unraid ( I believe 5.0 - 5.05) but I'm concerned about my data and the new USB stick. I thought I remembered when I first got my server up and running, something about when you assign the disks again Unraid automatically formats each drive and you loss any data on them. IS this a concern? Are there any other issues I may not be aware of? Thanks for any feedback. Also, any one use a USB ADATA 3.0 drive? Cheers!
May 16, 201412 yr If the drive has previously been used by unRAID (so it has the correct partition structure), then when you add it into unRAID it is simply added 'as is' and all data remains intact. If when you start the array with the new configuration any drive shows up as unformatted, do NOT format it as that would destroy its existing contents. You should check back here with the details as the 'unformatted' status can also mean that a drive failed to mount for some reason rather than it really needs formatting.

BUT ONLY IF YOU SET A NEW DISK CONFIGURATION. IF YOU DO NOT SET A NEW DISK CONFIGURATION, A NEWLY ADDED DISK, ADDED TO AN EXISTING ARRAY (EVEN IF PREVIOUSLY HAD BEEN USED BY UNRAID) IS CLEARED IF NOT ALREADY CLEARED AND MARKED AS PRE-CLEARED. (yes, I was shouting, because there was some incomplete/misleading advice in the prior post) Joe L.
