    Another reminder.... Change your smoke detectors every ten years. They do have an effective lifespan and do not last forever.

    I had the same problem with a UPS at work.  It's a power line filter capacitor.  UPS was still working without problem but with a burning smell.  I solder a new one and clean the pcb.  UPS is back to normal.
