Peter There is no technical reason you cannot access the server while parity is being built. Realize that access will be slower than usual and the length of the parity build will be elongated a bit. When recovering from certain failure scenarios or upgrading, there are reasons you would not want to write to the array during a build, but for doing the initial build it is not am issue. Although possible, I generally run parity builds during a time I will not be heavily accessing the server.
