Windows 8 VM installation says it's missing a driver to continue installation

Featured Replies

I'm not quite sure what's wrong.  My Windows 7 VM installed just fine.

My windows8.cfg file...

name = 'windows8'
builder = 'hvm'
vcpus = '4'
memory = '2048'
device_model_version="qemu-xen-traditional"
disk = ['phy:/mnt/cache/domains/Windows8/windows8.img,hda,w' , 'file:/mnt/user/backup/Programs/Windows_Slipstream_files/en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440_unlocked.iso,hdc:cdrom,r']
vif = [ 'mac=00:16:3E:A8:B8:C8,bridge=br0,model=e1000' ]
on_poweroff = 'destroy'
on_reboot = 'restart'
on_crash = 'destroy'
boot = 'dc'
acpi = '1'
apic = '1'
viridian = '1'
xen_platform_pci='1'
sdl = '0'
vnc = '1'
vnclisten = '0.0.0.0'
vncpasswd = ''
stdvga = '0'
usb = '1'
usbdevice='tablet'

The message I'm getting is...

A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DV or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert if now.

Ideas?

Out of curiosity, can you use that windows ISO to install on a bare metal machine? That way we can rule out the Windows ISO is the problem.

nevermind.  It seems to have been related to the ISO I was trying to install.  I changed to a different ISO, and it's installing as I type.

me too.  I beat you to it by about 2 minutes.  I had changed ISO's and started again, then tried to delete this post, but it wouldn't let me, so I posted my nevermind post.

I guess it's safe to say 'great minds think alike'.  Even if my mind isn't that great :D
