No rebuild from preclear a previous unraid disk

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had a disk that was showing some errors, it was "working" however parity checking was showing some errors.

So, reading some topics about it, some tried to preclear it again use it. So, I tried to do this, but probably I made some mistakes and the disk is not rebuilding, maybe the unraid think that I cleared the disk intentionally.

I'm just wondering if I really lost or there is something to do about it.

What I did:

1. stop the array

2. unassign the disk from array

3. preclear it

4. assign again the same disk

5. start the array

the disk is 1TB and not rebuild was done.

I'm using 5.0.5

Thanks

Your procedure was incomplete.  You needed to start the array after unassigning the disk so it starts with the missing disk being emulated; and then stop it again before re-assigning it and then restarting the array to rebuild the disk.  The pre-clear step was unnecessary except as a confidence check of the drive.

I am not sure if that revised procedure will still work after the steps you went through.  It might if nothing has been written to the array.    You probably have nothing to lose as the pre-clear process would have wiped all the data off the drive.  However I think there is a significant chance you have lost the contents of that drive - do you have backups if needed?
