unRAID password problems

Featured Replies

I recently changed my unRAID password, and it worked fine for a while, then I thought I wanted to just remove it altogether, so I searched around, and couldn't find a simple way to do so.  What I did find were suggestions to remove a couple of files from the flash drive (/config/passwd & shadow), but it looks like those files contain all my share passwords also, and I don't to lose/reset those.

I tried changing part of the shadow file, to remove just the password part of this line, like so

from - root:$5$Tj0kH/DzkT0/$1fAHyHVPPfbC37SAESYO1c.Q49PJ67NkttWjknKRqI9:16176:0:99999:7:::

to - root::16176:0:99999:7:::

but that didn't work at all, so I changed it back to the way it was.

Ever since doing that, unRAID only works with the old password I had before I had changed it.  I've tried changing it several times (passwd root from putty), but upon reboot, it just goes back to the old password.  I cannot get a new password to 'stick'.

How might I get this fixed, so that I can use a different password?
