May 27, 201412 yr Hey guys, I’d like to replace my current, loud, slowly dying ClearOS machine with a VM in my Unraid box. Before I go down this path I had a couple of questions for anyone that may have done something similar… Currently I’m running a couple of Arch VM’s (thanks Ironic!) on my unraid machine. One for Sab, sick, couch, etc. Another for Plex. Also running a Windows 7 VM for a MediaPortal TV backend server. These are all running off of the single NIC that I have on my motherboard. If I was to install a ClearOS firewall VM, would I need to install another NIC (maybe even dual port) to enable proper routing, etc in ClearOS? My current ClearOS box has two NICs, one cable is coming in from my Netgear DG834G in modem mode and then the other cable goes out to the rest of my network. I can’t see any other way of doing this in a VM, am I right? My other main question would be has anyone else actually installed a ClearOS VM? Does it install ok? Can you get to the console for the install process, etc?
