June 2, 201412 yr Long story short, been working on getting XBMC up and functional as a xen DomU for a little bit now. However, every time I think I have it, something pops up to say otherwise. My biggest hurdle was the need for a video card, so I added a old PCI adapter and passed it through. However, once that was all set up, I had high CPU usage and performance was poor as a result of not having any drivers. As a result, I had to return to the drawing board. I remembered that I had an old PCIe video card laying around, so I was quick to get it in place. Well, now the issue is that when you add a PCIe video card, it disables the onboard video, so there is no way to uses both. I tried to pass the card through, but now the DomU system simply will no boot. This really only leaves me with 2 options. The first being to scrap xbmxc on xen and just run it as a stand alone system. I had it working baremetal, but I simply just wanted to try getting it to work on xen. Or there is option 2, which is to replace my mobo with one that lets you use both add-in and on board video at once.
June 2, 201412 yr Hi I haven't managed to pass through the primary / boot gpu either. As long as I have two or more graphics cards, I can pass through any that are not specified in bios as the main card. A third option for you might be to add a second pcie gpu and pass that through? (Slots permitting) Peter
June 2, 201412 yr Or better yet, pci. Slots permitting. Micro center and Amazon have a Nice cheaper ati pci card for like $15. I'm using it myself but can't vouch for pass thru yet Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
June 2, 201412 yr Author Do you have a link to the microcenter card? I only see 2 in the 10 to 25 range but they are both pcie edit: Also, in reading, I read something that says my board does not support 2 video cards, so that is likely why the integrated graphics are disabled and likely the behavior would be the same for a PCI card too, it just wont work, but I can try. I just remembered i already have one, but chances are slim. So this will leave 2 options. Either run XBMC on Dom0 or run it somewhere else (openelec PXI or another physical dedicated box)
June 3, 201412 yr Doh. Sorry my bad. Forgot MC did not carry it. Had to go Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/ATI-Rage-8MB-Video-Card/dp/B000G6U2W4 Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
June 5, 201412 yr Author I don't think it will work as it seems my system only supports one video card at a time. The on board is disabled when pcie is added.
