Replacing Drive, Replacement Disk is Too Small

Featured Replies

I had installed a 2TB hard drive into my array which almost immediately had issues (unable to read from it).  I picked up a new replacement drive which was also 2TB, precleared it and am now attempting to replace it.  I unassigned the bad drive, powered down, swapped the drives and powered back up.  It now says Disk 4, Not Installed.  I selected the new pre-cleared drive from the dropdown and I'm getting a "Replacement disk is too small" error.  Again, this is also a 2TB drive so I'm not sure what it issue is.

When i start the array without attempting to add a new drive it says it is mounting the missing disk and still lists the size/free size but lists it as "not installed".  I have a parity drive but I do not have an option of attempting to rebuild it.

Thank you in advance.

Fix ended up being to just create a new config.

*edit for clarification*

This solution was only for the "replacement disk is too small" issue I was having. I still had to make sure any data I had on the disk I was replacing was backed up or accounted for.

New config would cause you to loose all data on a drive you need to rebuild. If yours was empty or near empty maybe not a big deal. But don't want a stray user finding this thread and thinking a new config was going to enable rebuilding a disk onto a disk that is reported smaller. It will NOT!

Edited my earlier "fix" to clarify about the data.
