June 3, 201412 yr hi guys, having a bit of an issue with passing through a graphics card to a win7 vm. basically it boils down to the card not appearing in the pci list, im stuck on corners to turn as i haven't got much experience with xen or vt-d for that matter. my current setup is; Motherboard - Intel DQ35JO CPU - Q6600 GPU - ATI Radeon HD3450 Running UnRAID6-beta5a Currently i am in the middle of transferring data around to free up the last of my 3x 4TB drives before i build my array properly but in the mean time i figured i'll plug up a single drive (which will be my cache drive later) and get busy building VMs. I have had success in creating a couple of VMs and am concentrating on a windows 7 one right now. I have successfully passed through the boards on board audio, a pci gigabit nic and a pci wireless nic. all show up and function correctly in the vm. i cannot get the gpu to appear in the pci list, even after following some articles i found regarding changing the sata modes and connectors used for the drive etc. i have proved the card and slot work by forcing bios to use the PCIe graphics, booted into bios and booting a live ubuntu cd, all worked fine. HOWEVER when i tried to boot unraid using the PCIe card it came back with an error message before rebooting itself, the error read ; panic on cpu 0 iommu.c:762:iommu_enable_translation: DMAR hardware is malfuntional reboot in 5 seconds.... i am hoping the above is a pointer towards a solution for someone with more knowledge and experience in this subject. if anyone can offer any help or guidance in this matter it would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance
June 4, 201412 yr Author ok, been at this again this evening and now i have another scenario that has got me. after literally turning bios settings on and off i have got unraid to see the gpu and have sucessfully pass it through to the windows vm. i narrowed it down to advanced > chipset configuration > pci configuration > compliance test pattern > enable, this allowed the card to be seen and passed through fine. however with this enabled unraid now no longer sees my pci wired and wireless nics this were working fine previously and were passed through to the same vms short of changing a setting, booting unraid, checking the pci list, reboot and repeat i am at a loss does anyone have an inclining of what may be occurring with my board?
June 4, 201412 yr Have you upgraded to the latest bios? Are you using any kernel flags in syslinux? If so, which ones?
June 4, 201412 yr Author Have you upgraded to the latest bios? Are you using any kernel flags in syslinux? If so, which ones? Yes i have the latest bios, rev 1143 for that particular board. im not using any kernel flags, i've looked into them but wouldn't know which to try as the wiki is not clear on what each does, but i hazard a guess the ones that start pci= would be a good start?
