Changing shares to be cache only

Featured Replies

I realized after several months that a few of my shares that I thought were cache only were actually set as normal shares. I changed them to cache only and then manually ran the mover through the webui.

The shares haven't moved and I don't see any messaging in the syslog after a couple of hours. How long should it take for the shares to fully move to cache drive? Both shares are barely 1GB combined.

Its a one way move, from the cache to the main array.  If you have files on the array that you only want to be in the cache share, you will have to move them back.  What the cache only flag does is tell mover not to move the files/directories.

You can use your PC or telnet into the unraid server and use Midnight Commander to move the files.

That makes sense. I was able to copy them all form /mnt/user/ to /mnt/cache.

Should I now delete all of the cache only shares from /mnt/user?

No - /mnt/user is a consolidated view of both the array disks and the cache drive, so removing the files from /mnt/user would also remove them from the cache drive.

What you should instead is use /mnt/user0 as the place to remove files from (it would have also been a better bet as a source for the copy).  /mnt/user0 is a consolidated view of the array disks (omitting the cache drive).
