June 5, 201412 yr Hi All I have just got my HP Microserver Gen8 and started playing with it. I had UnRaid Server Plus 4.7 on a spare USB key, so have booted it using this and it boots into UnRAID, seemingly, fine. But the first thing I have noticed is that I cant get on the GUI over my LAN... from the tower console ifconfig eth0 reports "error fetching interface information: Device not found" I also tried eth1 and eth2 as this unit has 2 x LAN ports (+1 x ILO ) and get the same response. I have 6.0b on a key but that server is in use at the moment, so I cant try it... but does anyone know if the LAN card on this HP unit has support in UnRAID. From what I can see it seems to be using the "332i Ethernet Adapter"... does anyone know if this is supported, or could support be added? I really want to make this work as its a great looking unit, if not... offer me £350 for this unit and its yours
June 6, 201412 yr Author OK - I guess nobody knows... so I have just bought an HP Broadcom PCI-E NIC and will let you know how this goes in case anyone else is thinking about having a play with the Microserver Gen8. It only has space for a 2.5" HDD in the ODD bay, so I am planning on fitting a parity drive, or maybe a cache drive here in the long run Loving the ILO though!!
June 7, 201412 yr Author OK - fitting the HP Broadcom PCI-E NIC worked... UnRAID now recognises the LAN and can be accessed from the GUI over the LAN I have put 3 x 1Tb disks in to try out and looks good so far. Loaded v5.0.5 and found the whole thing to be flaky... random access to GUI (exactly the same as I found with my G7 production server)... so I loaded 6b4 and it seems a stable as anything - not happy to trust my valuable data to it yet, so will play with it for a few days and see how it goes. Strange why the GUI wont work using 5.0.5 on the HP Microserver G7 & G8, so cant wait for 6 to be released as stable
