[?] Running multiple identical XBMC setups

Featured Replies

I am in the process of learning and testing a deployment of 3+ Android XBMC 13.1 (Gotham) clients throughout my house:

I want to have a single profile for all clients.

I have already setup a mysql database on my unRIAD cache drive as described below, MySQL running on my existing Windows 7 VM (running using unRAID Virtualbox plugin):

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=MySQL/Setting_up_MySQL#tab=Windows

I was considering using the <pathsubstitution> option as described in the advancedsettings.xml with a substitution path on my unRAID server cache drive:

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=MySQL/Sync_other_parts_of_XBMC

Current test results (after 3-4 days testing and tweaking on Windows and Android tablet clients):

  • MySQL is working perfectly - All data is available to both clients.
  • <pathsubstitution> for Thumbnails folder is working OK
  • <pathsubstitution> for Sources.xml is working OK
  • I have problems with other <pathsubstitution> elements: Not all components are being substituted correctly, the addon_data works for some addons but for for other (example: Underground Weather does not show maps).
Profiles and RssFeeds XML files which should be substituted to the remote unRAID server are created localy, etc...

Seeing as this is not working out cleanly as I hoped, I am considering using symbolic links in each Android client's XMBC setup folder Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata/ (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Userdata) to my unRAID cache drive.

Has anyone successfully done a multiple full XBMC centralized setup?

Does anyone know how to setups automatic symbolic links un a rooted Android system upon bootup or after network connection?

Hey, for my setup on windows i use BTSync for keeping everything the same between my clients. Android has various sync services available that could possibly be used to keep them the same.
