June 10, 201412 yr Do you happen to know how long the warranty is? Two years I believe. The days of 5 year hard drive warranties are gone now that there's only 2 drive makers.

June 11, 201412 yr Damn! I was just about to pull the trigger.. the I saw the $8+ in sales tax.. Now not such a decent deal! Stupid Amazon charging sales tax in my state! I think that is everywhere, effective sometime last year I believe. There was some legislation passed or at the time being passed, etc. that prompted this. If Amazon has a hub (i.e. "conducts business") in your state which, heck, now I think they have a hub just about everywhere, then you get hammered with the state tax. -Technically- we're all supposed to be putting down "tax free" purchases from online stores on our states income tax returns, but... well, yeah, we know how that goes. They have a fairly big hub in Richmond, VA, so, being a VA resident, I'm hit with the 6% tax. I am a prime member (though contemplating cancelling due to the rate increase of $20 and that I never access their movies, my collection is better lol) so, for now, until that expires, it's still a decent deal for me, I like the "free" 2nd day shipping.
June 11, 201412 yr Author B&H is out of NY and often has deals equivalent to Amazon or NewEgg. They provide expedited shipping that I always get in 2 days (I live in VA). They sell retail drives not bulk OEM drives so the packaging is good. And no sales tax.

But pretty soon my guess is there will be legislation requiring all online purchases to collect sales tax if your state has it! Jim

Going to check them out, I recall buying a camcorder (Hi- from them yearrrrrssss ago, I think it was B&H anyway..

They have the best price on the HGST 4tb coolspin drive Arguably the most reliable drive available.

If I start to have problems with my WD Red drives I will replace them as well. But that will be a 3 year process maybe longer if the drives last - as I'm only going to replace them as they die.
