[Solved] Disk 3 red balled again

Featured Replies

This is getting to be a regular problem. The disk isn't showing any SMART errors but it is fairly old. I've been working under the assumption that I'm getting write errors due to sata connection problems. I've already replaced the original latching sata cable with a new one and connected the disk to a different port on the motherboard. I think that only leaves the cage and the drive itself as possible causes. Since I've got a 4TB WD red warmed up I thought I would install it in the same slot that the red balled disk is in now and see if I continue to have problems. Just trying to work out a step by step so I don't lose any data.

The hot spare is installed in the enclosure but not mounted in the array. Can I just cp the data on disk 3 to the unmounted spare and then swap the 2 drives and set a New Config? Maybe there's a better way, I'm open to suggestions?

I'm not sure if that is the recommended process, but you'd want to run a parity check before doing that.

Are you saying to run a parity check with disk 3 not installed?

Sorry. My Bad. If I had done even a little research I would have found that all I needed to do was install the new disk and unRaid would rebuild the data. Guess I was just expecting it to be more complicated.
