I'm not sure if it works.  Coupon says it expired yesterday, but the checkout says the deal worked.  We'll see.

EDIT:  My brain is shot.  Coupon is good through 2/18.  For some reason, I thought today was 2/19.  According to my calendar, today is 2/12.  I was wondering why it took me a week to get the RSS message...  :-\

Just purchased 4 of these, needed to do it as 4 separate orders but that was no big deal at $83 each it was worth the 10 minutes.

I really need to stop buying hard drives.  I am in for one.  I bought one about a week and a half ago for $10-$15 more.  They keep dropping the price on these things.  The one i ordered last week had firmware CC1H on it.  I have not bothered searching if that is the most current firmware, but i will update it if need be.

Thanks for the heads up.  This will put me at 2x1.5TB drives, 1x1TB, 2x750GB, and 2x500GB drives.

Appears deal is over. The entire item is gone. I'm happy because otherwise I might have bought one ;)

DELL has an annoying habit of crying foul on great deals and canceling associated orders. Hope that doesn't happen to you guys.

Good luck!

For some reason (probably my stupidity) my credit card was not accepted.  I had to call Dell and give them the info over the phone.  I assume that means that the deal was real and that mine went through.

Only time will tell.

Are these safe to use as a Parity Drive?

I remember reading that the Seagate 1.5TB's were causing a lot of problems. (Does the updated firmware change things)

Thanks for any advice as I ordered one, but don't want to risk 10+TB of data if it's not safe.

Just got an email saying mine shipped.  Should arrive tomorrow!

I'm currently using one for parity.  The one I have (bought from TigerDirect retail store last week) came with a non-affected parity drive.  I realized that my previous parity drive (a 1TB) was an "affected" drive, but I had used it for months without issue.  I upgraded the firmware on it, so I feel pretty confident with it.

From what i have gathered when reading around the internet it seems that the updated firmware fixes the problems.  The first one i ordered about a week ago from dell came with the CC1H firmware.

What i plan on doing is running the drive through it's paces before i add it to my array as the parity.  I will be using Joe L.'s preclear script to do that.  I know you don't need to "clear" the parity drive so to speak but his tool will allow me to work the drive a little.  I will probably run a three pass on the drive just to be sure.  I have 2x1.5TB coming so it will take me a while to get them both into my array since i will be preclearing them for three passes, but i figure i should work the drive a little before using it as a parity drive.

I'm can't believe I didn't see that deal! That's a great price. I guess I will have to wait and hope dell does that again.

Wish I had caught the deal too...  I guess Dell seems to have "fixed" the price... coupon still works but now it starts at $165.99 for the HD, $60 off coupon -> $105.99.  With tax in CA, I'm looking at $114.20, slightly but not supremely better than the $129 I can pay normally at Amazon.

Overall, though, can't help but wonder if either vendors or Seagate are dumping these things... not that I mind at all.  :D

This was a mistake on Dell's part but for the first time they actually honored the deal.  I got my 4 drives yesterday and all were $84 to my door.  Got lucky this time, normally I miss out.
