June 25, 201412 yr Apparently the case's front panel cable is proprietary, a 16 pin ribbon cable. Upgrading from the 833T to the 933T, i came to a brick wall. Looking at the pin-out, it seems kind of important. Plus I want to do it nice and clean. I've found one or two that are ok, but I want to know what my options are. Searching supermicro's site didn't yield any good results either. The only real requirements are 3 pci-x slots, or 2 pci-x and a pci-e. Need to be able to put in my two SAT2-MV8 cards and quad port nic.
June 25, 201412 yr Any SuperMicro motherboard should work. You might want to consider getting rid of those ancient PCI-X cards...it will expand your options.
June 25, 201412 yr Author According to the manual on page A-3 http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/chassis/3U/SC933.pdf It can be 5 different variety of pins. In this case mine is 16 to 16, or CBL-0049. It's not a standard set of front header pins. The cards handle 8x4tb just fine, so unless i'm unable to find a compatible motherboard, i see no reason to change.
June 25, 201412 yr I have a few 933's and they all use X9SCM's. You can always get the split out cable so you can use any motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CK27rr6Qlb8CFRJk7AodVCsAqw&Item=N82E16812153003

Cheap, gets the job done. Anyone know anything about htese cables? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812422754&cm_re=sata_cable-_-12-422-754-_-Product They're cheap and I don't see any bad reviews, it'd be nice to have all the same cables instead of just sata cables i found laying around. Half way through the swap and I ran into that, and a mess on the dining room table, the wife isn't happy. I just can't wait for 60tb capacity.
June 25, 201412 yr Depending on how many you need to buy, you may be able to buy them from Monoprice cheaper. http://www.monoprice.com/Search/Index?keyword=locking+sata
June 25, 201412 yr Author I bought from monoprice. Newegg was $5 shipping for "you'll get it some day" and $27 for 3 day. Monoprice was $6 for 2-3 day. Newegg has gotten carried away with it's shipping rates and options. Thanks for the heads up.
