June 27, 201412 yr Hi, Currently running UNRAID as a dedicated server on server grade hardware. As I notice I only make use of the server aprox.; 2 hours daily, I would like to shut it down every day and boot on arrival at home. What do you guys think is this "bad" for the servers integrity or will this cause no harm ? Please stipulate why you consider this bad for the hardware or dat integrity. I would do this until I migrated the unraid server onto a virtual platform. Thx in advance for your reply's
June 27, 201412 yr Turning off and on daily would mean the electronics inside would be heating and cooling more often and might our might not affect longevity. I have rebooted my workstation daily for years and years and never had a problem I attribute to that. I'd say whatever you want to do is fine. UnRaid does spin down your drives when not in use and generally leads to a pretty lower power operation so many do not shutdown daily.
